Domestic violence victim granted asylum in US (AP)

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - After suffering 10 years of horrific abuse at the hands of her husband, Rody Alvarado fled her native Guatemala in 1995 and applied for asylum in the U.S.

Last week, in a one-page decision, an immigration judge finally granted her request. It was the culmination of a long personal odyssey for Alvarado and of a thorny legal case that inflamed passions on both sides of the immigration debate. Full article

  1. My brother is a great man. He is hard working and has a great heart. We have been together three years. He is such a skilled worker that his boss has offered him to be the manager of his company. The only problem is he needs some sort of I.D or license. And he was brought to the US when he was 4 years old and He graduated highschool but has had one misdemeanor for possesion of marijauna when he young and immature and he also has a restraining order which was given to him by the mother his child simply because she wanted full custody and knew because of his legal status he could not do anything about it. He has so much potential and this would be a great opportunity for him. However, I am reading that the dream act is only for those who have not been convicted with anything and if we were to get married they may not give him a green card right away. If you have any information on this I would be grateful. Thanks.
